Inspiration for this UK boat stud was sparked by a young man named Joey, who was lucky enough to be able to have some time to himself after his sibling was facing terminal illness.
Joey was invited on the voyage with 'Ocean Youth Trust South' by Shooting Star Children's Hospice Siblings Support Group (SOCKS). The Hospice support families with children who have life limiting conditions and have supported Joey’s younger brother Nathan and family over the last 10 years.
Joey said “The voyage meant a lot to me as I met a lot of young people like me who have siblings with life limiting conditions like Nathan. It made me feel like I wasn’t alone in this world. Being a part of the crew and being on the voyage allowed me to experience being out of my comfort zone and becoming comfortable with that. I made friends who know what it’s like to be like me, and that’s so important.”.
This collaboration between OYT South and Vurchoo means we can sponsor more places on board their sailing vessel for young people who really need it.
